Description: Offered here is an antique feldspathic stoneware jug attributed to Chetham & Woolley of Staffordshire, England. The neck is coated in blue and the bottom portion was lathe-turned to create vertical ridges. Above the ridges is an applied hunt scene. Likely made in the mid 1800s, it lost its handle somewhere along the way. A bronze replacement was attached by carefully drilling through the body. Thinly cut rattan was then woven over the handle in decorative patterns, providing insulation and to help form a tighter grip. Overall, this jug is in incredible condition for its age. It stands 5.5". There is a small chip on the neck, but it is otherwise in wonderful (repaired) condition. Feldspathic stoneware is the only group of non-porcelain pottery which can often display translucency, and this piece is no exception - see photos. US Shipping is free
