Description: The hand-carved, irregularly shaped water coupe from the Republic period of China, polished during the mid to late 19th century or early 20th century. It features a celadon-coloured jade brush washer with a three-legged toad perched in the top right corner. This striking toad is depicted spitting water along with Chinese characters from its mouth. It is likely that these characters refer to a story similar to that of the toad itself, which is about overcoming adversity or obstacles. There are two birds featured discreetly on the top left corner . Perhaps these lovebirds will overcome the obstacles or persevere in spite of any trials and tribulations that lie ahead. The coupe measures 4 1/2“ inches long, 2 1/2“inches wide, and 5/16 inches in the nepherite jades thickness. Weight: 10.3 oz. Or. 292.47g
