Description: I acquired this along with other Armenian pottery from Jerusalem, although this piece is unsigned and undated. The colors, stylings, and motifs are consistent, however, so I'm confident of its origin. But it's also so...primitive! Most Armenian ceramics are elegantly and carefully painted, but this one looks almost childish. Was it made by a child? The ceramic build is thin, and the glaze is very thin as well, so the overall feel is of fragility. The glaze is also heavily checked. You'll see in some of the pics that when I washed the bowl, the water immediately went through the cracks in the glaze and saturated the ceramic below. I love it. All this is to say that this old thing needs TLC! It would be great in a lighted cabinet where it can shine and continue being a part of history.
