Description: Antique 8 Hand Painted Fish Plates Set Coalport UK Davis Collamore NYC READ Stunning Coalport Spode hand-painted fish plates imported by Davis Collamore for their Broadway and 21st Street New York City store. Marks date these to the late 1800s to very early 1900's. I should note that the fish are painted under the glaze but the gold edge trim was applied over the glaze - thus there is rather a bit of loss on the edges when viewed in a "stack." However, it does not show a lot when displayed (see image) - suspect that the "chipping" to the gold was caused when these were displayed at some point in metal plate holders. My research indicates that Davis Collamore was the first to use hand painted accents over transfers. However as these are all signed (with several different artists), it may be these are 100% hand painted. If not, it is very hard to tell. Just a lovely old set - usually for 6 plates and all 8 would display well. Each plate is signed on the face by the artist and each is different. There are a total of 8 plates each of a different fish species - flaws and damage to the last 3 is noted:DaceCarpBarbelSalmonPikeRoach - a tiny indentation just above the fish (see close-up)Mackeral - crack to the plate (see close up) - the most significant damageRed Mullet - chip to the edge (see close up) Can remove the damaged plates for a small reduction in shipping depending on buyer's location - but it is a shame to break up the set of 8 plates. The crack could be filled repaired (it is "open" about 1 - 1 1.2 inches from the edge; and the chip on the Mullet is not offensive.
