By Frank Luther Mott (1886 – 1964). Mott was an educator, author and historian who won the 1939 Pulitzer Prize for history for his work on the history of magazines. Two year later he published this work on 250 years of newspaper history. It became the standard text book in journalism schools. Publisher's tan cloth board, blue and gilt lettering on front panel and blue panel with reverse lettering on spine Illustrated with line drawings and reproductions. Sunning to spine, strong binding, sturdy corners. Black marker used to cross out name and address of previous owner on frontspiece (see photo). Light soiling on a few pages, with stain showing at bottom outward edge that has tinged and slightly corrugated the lower corner of interior pages. Text block is clean and unmarked; book is tight, and solid. It is 9.5" x 6.5” wide and 772 pages including index.
