Camp NarrowsGiles County, VaJuly the 14, 1862 Dear Companion, I am blest at the present opportunity to write you a few o lines which leave me well and I truly hope that those few line will come safe to hand and find you enjoying the same blessing, etc. We left Doublin last Thursday and got here last evening. We don’t know how long we shall stay here. We may stay a day or two. We don’t never know when we are going nor where we are going, etc. the Yankees the other day come in few miles of this place and they went back. They are at Pack’s ferry. It is said fifteen hundred of them though they don’t know how many there is of them. We have two Regt and a battalion here and about 4 thousand at Salt Sulpher. We may have a brush with Yankees in a few days and we must have a fight with them all. The boys here is generally well and what of us that is here is as well but __ __ __ as could be expected. I seat my self this morning to write you a few lines. _____ is thought that we will stay about here for some time. We may stay a month or two. They are sending their horses away to pasture today. We have good water here as we have in Grayson. We hunt no more from Richmond for a few days. All was quiet when we heard last the Yankees was reforming heavy and another fight was soon expected and I believe that will make a end to the fighting. July the 15 I received you kind letter___ evening the 14 which which I was glad to hear from you and that you was well. You wrote that you have got your cow and you wanted me to send you money to pay for her. I haven’t received a cent yet and I don’t know when I shall but as soon as I get it I will send it to you. I was very glad to hear that you was getting along as well as you was. I want you to write to me if you know how much good it done me to hear from you you surely would write once a week. This four letters that I have wrote and I have received but one. Please write another. You got my ____ that sent when I was at Wyeth. I sent them b John Grub. I sent 2 pair of pants, 1 coat and 1 jacket, one knit shirt and one pair of socks. So no more at present but still remain your affectionate husband until death. I am going to write him a few lines for you which I I am in no doubt but he would gladly receive your compliments at any time.
