Description: This is a charming little early Victorian woolwork picture worked in tiny tent stitch. It has a fabulous folk art look to it. This sweet needlework was wrought in England during the 1830s to 1840 period. A scarce find to discover a needlework from this period in its original frame with old glass. The frame is superb with its dry old patina. We just love the scene featuring a horse pulling a carriage, notice the passenger in the carriage with the two footmen. We are all so used to motorised transport aren't we? We forget that when this was made, that horse, horse and cart, or horse drawn carriage (if you were wealthy) were the only other means of faster travel. Railways were just coming in, and they were rather scary indeed when you had been used to the fastest way of travelling being a trot, canter, or maybe a gallop! This wonderful example is the perfect size to group with other antique framed textiles. This small early Victorian example is ready to hang and admire.Measuring: Frame width 6 ½ inch (16.5 cm) by height 5 ½ inch (14 cm). Aperture width 3 5/8 inch (9.5 cm) by height 2 5/8 inch (6.5 cm).Condition: Light surface wear commensurate with age. A few small sections of loss to wool surface.Item id:15503
