Premiering nationwide on December 10, 1996 on PBS, this one-hour program follows the career of Kaye, the son of an immigrant Russian tailor, who became one of America's premiere stage and screen performers, as well as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador to Third World countries. This affectionate documentary featured excerpts from his brilliant film and television career, as well as home movies and private family photos. Kaye starred in 17 movies won an Academy Award in 1954; his Emmy-winning TV series ran for four years. Above all, he brought tears of laughter to millions with his jokes, pantomime, comedic dancing and amazing ability to sing impossibly fast patter songs.
