Description: Phil Simms is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 15 seasons, from 1979 to 1993. He is best known for his time with the New York Giants, where he led the team to two Super Bowl victories.Simms was born on November 3, 1954, in Lebanon, Kentucky. He played college football at Morehead State University, where he set several school records and earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors.In 1979, Simms was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round, seventh overall. He spent his entire NFL career with the Giants, becoming one of the franchise's most beloved and successful players.Simms' first few seasons with the Giants were plagued by injuries, but he began to establish himself as a top quarterback in the league in the early 1980s. In 1986, he led the Giants to their first Super Bowl victory, a 39-20 win over the Denver Broncos. Simms was named the game's Most Valuable Player, completing 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns.Simms continued to play at a high level throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, leading the Giants to another Super Bowl victory in 1990, a 20-19 win over the Buffalo Bills. Simms completed 20 of 30 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown in the game.Injuries eventually caught up with Simms, and he retired from the NFL after the 1993 season. Over the course of his career, he threw for over 33,000 yards and 199 touchdowns.
