Description: Please zoom in with your smart phone or computer and look closely at the pictures I have provided here. You will see this bicycle really is a superb work of art. When the talented engineers of Schwinn came up with the Stingray concept, they were literally years ahead of their time. First came the flamboyant red Schwinn Stingray bicycle back in the middle 60s. When many the young boys in the USA saw for the first time these awesome Stingray bicycles being displayed in the windows of their local Schwinn dealerships, their mouths salivated with envy and they begged and even cried to their parents to get one of these bicycles for them. I should know because I was one of those envious kids back then. Let’s start off here with the frame. It is an original Flamboyant Red Schwinn Stingray frame. The I.D. number on the frame is MMxxxxxx. That means it was made in December of 1976 at the now defunct Schwinn Bicycle Company in Chicago, Illinois. As you can see there are areas of paint that have been chipped or scraped off on the frame due to years of use. I would estimate about 5% of the total surface areas on the frame is missing the flamboyant red paint. The forks on this bicycle are the original Schwinn forks. As you can see it was repainted with a similar flamboyant red paint. They are in pretty good darn shape if I do say so myself. There is very little to no rust on most of this fork assembly and it swivels just fine and dandy on the frame. What do you think of the front wheel? It is the original 20 inch 28 spoke S7 chrome wheel. It has the coveted knurl around it which most Schwinn Stingray bicycle lovers love to have. It also has the Tubular S-7 stamping on it (see pic). It is in very good shape considering its age. The front wheel also comes with an original 20 x 1.75 inch Schwinn Westwind tire. It was made either in the fourth quarter of 1979. You have to admit it does add some pizzazz to this wheel and tire combo. The front fender is original and is in good shape. It shines very nicely in the sunlight as the pictures show. Now let’s move over to the awesome 20 inch 28 spoke rear wheel. As you can see it is the original chrome rim and it is stamped with the words Schwinn Tubular on it. It also has the coveted double knurl that goes around the inner side of the rim. This is a must to have for all those diehard Schwinn Stingray lovers out there who demand to have this type of authenticity on their bicycle wheels. But do you see something else that stands out on this wheel? It also has a bodacious vintage 3 blue ring Bendix 2-speed overdrive kickback hub assembly in the middle of it. Wow! Now you can say goodbye to the single speed or the traditional caliper brakes you find on other multiple speed Schwinn Stingray bicycles because this bicycle now has a custom made 3 blue ring Bendix 2 speed kickback overdrive brake assembly on it. And yes, the 2 speed kickback overdrive works just fine and dandy. This makes this bicycle very special and very rare and you will not find this on most 1976 Schwinn Stingray bikes, or any other Schwinn bicycle for that matter. Because of this, it adds even more value and prestige to this bicycle. If you are wanting a certain bicycle to stand out more than the other Schwinn bikes, then this one concept here will definitely do it for you. And yes, you can literally stop this bicycle on a dime with the use of this Bendix kickback overdrive brake assembly. The rear Schwinn General Dragster Slik tire is original and is in decent shape. It is dated December 1980 and it was made in the good ol’ US of A. There is one area along the bead that has been damaged due to previous use which is causing the inner tube to bulge the sidewall out just a little bit from the rim, but not very much. The manufactured wide white walls on each side of the tire go perfect with the color theme of the bicycle. It adds that extra touch that is needed to make this bicycle even more awesome. The back fender is new and is in good shape. It shines very nicely in the sunlight as the pictures show. The crank and sprocket are original and the crank has the 76-year date embossed on it. Both are very nice and shiny considering they are 46 years old. The pedals are in great shape. I do not know if they are the original ones that came with his bicycle or not. But what I do know is they are a nice set of original 70s era Schwinn Approved made in Germany pedals. The handle bars and the goose neck stem are original with the 76 year stamped on the handlebars and 76 year embossed in the middle of the stem. They both are nice and shiny with very little damage to them. I kept them with this bike because they are the original handlebars and goose neck stem and I wanted to keep as many original parts on this bicycle as I possibly could. The Schwinn Approved red with sparkle handlebar grips are original and are in great condition for their age. They add to the beauty and finesse of this most incredible bicycle. And then there is the red dot Weinmann brake lever on the left side of the handlebars. It has been polished to a near mirror finish and it looks great in the sun as the pictures show. Now turn your attention to the Weinmann 810 brake caliper in the front. It has been refurbished of course and the polished aluminum on it is fantastic to say the least. It is the little things like this that make an already awesome bicycle even better. The kickstand is the original Schwinn kickstand. It is in great shape. However, the curved end has been shaved off due to previous damage so it now is just a straight shaft. As the pictures show, it still keeps the bicycle upright like it should and it will not hinder its function.. The metal shines just fine and dandy on it. The Red banana seat is a newer reproduction seat and it looks similar to the original banana seat that was made for the 1976 Schwinn Flamboyant Red Stingray bicycles. The solid red sparkle vinyl will let everyone know you are the proud owner of one of the most awesome bicycles ever created by the Schwinn Bicycle Company. The rear red reflector underneath the seat is used. The chrome on the backside looks okay and the red reflector looks great especially when light shines on it in the dark. Let’s move on to the sissy bar now. It is the original sissy bar that came with the red seat. It is in good condition and the chrome looks attractive on this bicycle. The chain is original and it adds pizazz and glamour to the overall appearance of the bike. The chain guard is an original middle 70s chain guard that came off a different Schwinn bicycle. The Flamboyant Red color paint looks similar to the paint on the frame. Because it was painted Flamboyant Red, I had to paint a chrome edging on it to match the original chrome edging you find on all Krate 5-speed chain guards. I did this because I feel five-speed Krate chain guards look better than the Stingray chain guards. You be the judge on that. Now let’s move to the components I have added to this awesome bicycle. Most young boys of yesteryear had always wanted the so-called “bells and whistles” to be on their Krates, their Stingrays, and their muscle bicycles, but unfortunately they could not afford to have them. Most of them had to deal with the plain standard package the Schwinn dealership sales person offered their parents from the show room floor. But once in a while you would see a young boy riding his bicycle proudly down the street with one or more of these “bells and whistles” on it. Lucky for you, I have added these missing “bells and whistles” to this timeless classic and here they are…. Let’s start with the chrome bugle horn. It is new and it works perfect. With just one quick squeeze on the horn bulb, it will make everyone in front of you move out of your way. It is very powerful and it can be heard up to a half a mile away or more. How about the nice glowing redish orange streamers I have on the bike? They are nice and every kid I have ever known back then (back in the 60s and 70s that is), had always wanted colorful streamers dangling down from their hand grips on their bicycles. Now this bicycle has them and so will you. What do think of the raccoon tail attached to the rear sissybar? It is real of course and you do not find these very often on other Stingray bicycles. It goes perfect with the color theme of this bicycle. And then there is the new imported black leather utility tool bag attached to the rear of the sissy bar. Now you can ride this bicycle down the street and carry all your small cherished items inside this bag. It is guaranteed to attract a lot of attention. Let’s move over to the two red glitter checker flag valve stem caps that are on the two wheels. They are new and they are guaranteed to attract a lot of attention from other people. What do you think of the chrome headlight that is on the front of this bicycle? It is new of course and boy is it bright. The LED lights shine in the darkness with no problem. It’s little things like this that adds authenticity to these classics Schwinn Stingray bicycles. I have also included a new red and white checkerboard rearview mirror with this bicycle. This mirror is in fantastic condition as the pictures show. It is a must have for those diehard Krate lovers out there who want everything on their classic bicycles. It brings out the beauty and elegance to this timeless masterpiece. It literally is the Schwinn icing on the cake to this most incredible deal. And last but not least, this bicycle would be incomplete unless it had an official Stingray Owner’s Manual that goes with it. Now you will have everything at your fingertips to know how to do the maintenance of this bicycle. From adjusting a 5-speed derailleur to tightening the bolts on a brake caliper, it has it all. As you can see, folks, I am a good story teller here. I like to describe each component as best I can and sometimes I put humor with it. I do my very best to tell it like it is and try not use sugar coating or deception in trying to sell my products. I believe in the old adage… Honesty is the best policy. If I have left anything out of my description here, then that probably means these unsaid parts are part of the original bike. There is very little rust on this bicycle and it is ready to be ridden by one of your loved one or it can be setup in your personal man cave so you can do some serious show and tell with your family or friends or you can display it at one of your local bicycle shows. The world is literally your oyster. Well, folks, this pretty much sums it up with what goes with this awesome bike. The ball is now in your court. You now have the opportunity of buying one of the most incredible bicycles ever created by the Schwinn Bicycle Company. You can use your recent tax refund money or your savings to purchase this bodacious bicycle for either yourself, your son, your grandson or for whomever you would like to give it to. Let him enjoy the fun, the thrills and the ultimate excitement of owning one of these classic bicycles just like we enjoyed when we were youngsters. With that being said, you must understand that most of the components in and on this bicycle are now 46 years old, so please do not expect this bicycle to function and ride like a brand-new, state of the art bicycle because it doesn’t. But it sure is darn close to it. Because much of this bicycle is 46 years old, it is being sold As Is. There is no warranty or guarantee given or implied here. What you see is what you’ll get. The shipping charge is set at $185. I will ship this bicycle via FedEx and I will only ship it to the lower 48 states in the Continental United States. There will be no International shipping. Thanks for looking at my awesome custom made 1976 Schwinn Flamboyant Red Stingray bicycle, with a rare and bodacious Bendix 2-speed kickback overdrive on it, and God Bless America.
