It was struck at the Karlsruhe mint in 1973 and carries the “G” mint mark. It was struck to mark the “One Hundred and Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Frankfurt National Assembly.” The Frankfurt assembly was convened in May of 1848 in response to the widespread revolutionary movements that swept across Europe in 1848. These revolutions were driven by demands for political reform, national unification, and basic civil rights. The “Frankfurt Assembly” was the first significant and organized attempt to unify Germany under a single constitution and parliamentary system. It failed, and German unity had to wait until Otto von Bismarck and Prussia accomplished it in 1871 by forming the first “German Empire”. Weight: 11.20 Grams, 29 Millimeters, .625 Silver.
