1960 Kahn's Basketball Jerry West Auto Signed Rookie Card RC XRC PSA/DNA Lakers

Description: You are looking at a 1960 Kahn's Wieners Basketball Jerry West. This card has been signed by Jerry in silver paint pen. If you have ever fiddled with Kahn's, they have a bit of a waxy coating to "preserve" them from the Cincinnati hot dog grease with which they were originally packaged to varying degrees of success. If you've ever seen high grade Kahn's, I can guarantee you they never made their way into hot dog packages. I have tried getting other Kahn's signed with sharpie, and no matter how you prep the card the auto still looks a little funky. This West was perfect for a silver paint auto in the dark background for a sharp contrast - and like nearly everything he signed and a majority of 4th quarter shots he took, Jerry nailed this one. I had this signed maybe 7-8 years ago, and the style of West's signature bears this out. I gave this to a friend a couple of years ago with his larger submission, and was surprised to see the pop was less than 5 for signed examples - the pop of the unsigned ones is approximately 30 allowing for crack outs and regrades - creating the presumption this card is a true rarity. Comparatively, there are approximately 1400 graded '62 Fleer Wests and 200 autographed in the pop report. Since the prices of 1960 Kahn's Wests has slowly been increasing for 15+ years, the market is telling us it is quite likely we won't see 10 of these suddenly appear. I have seen perhaps two of these signed Wests made available and sold over the years (though it has been several years since I last saw one at a minimum), in the 7-10k range. With many people seeking the true first appearance of HoFers on cards, as opposed to the Beckett-defined RCs, the demand for these Kahn's has swelled a bit. Suffice it to say there are likely no more than 10 of these autographed (including this one) and with West's recent passing, the supply is impossible to grow.
