Description: 1890’s Samuel Huston Thompson cabinet card. Published by Palace Studio of Bethlehem and Easton Pennsylvania. Samuel was a Princeton alum. He played football there from 1893-96. Samuel coached at Lehigh University of Bethlehem Pennsylvania from 1898-99. Samuel moved on to the University of Texas after Lehigh. He coached the Longhorns from 1900-01. The 1900 Longhorns were undefeated under Samuel during his first season. The Longhorns had 2 losses in 1899. 19th century southern powerhouse Sewanee and Vandy were their 1899 losses. Samuel was able to avenge the Vandy loss in 1900. Seemed wasny on their schedule. Samuel was a law professor and held political appointments after football. Card is a little less than 5 by 7 inch in size. Stains, toning and wear. Feel free to ask questions.
