Description: Annual Report of the Watering Committee, for the Year 1849, to the Select and Common Councils of the City of Philadelphia. January 3, 1850. Printed in Philadelphia by Crissy and Markley. 96 pp. 9.25” x 6”. Hardcover custom blue cloth. As-is, with loss of binding on spine. Front board essentially detached. Text block remains bound well. Ex-library, with sticker on bottom of spine and bookplate and stamping on front board. Light markings. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece on the Philadelphia Watering Committee, established in 1797 to combat disease in the city. Originally run by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, the architect of the United States Capitol, the first fire hydrants appeared in 1802 and the first public water fountains appeared in the city in 1809. A great piece for restoration. FORN-SHELF-0528-BB-0924-aj2539
