Description: This historic and original engraving is from Captain James Cook and George William Anderson's "A New , Authentic , and Complete Account of Voyages Round the World, Undertaken and Performed by Royal Authority..." - see scan of cover page, not included. The work was published in London by Alexander Hogg between 1784 and 1786 The engraving entitled "A Man of the Island of Tanna" and "A Woman of the Island of Tanna" is based on the drawing made by the official crew artist, when Cook visited the island on his Second Voyage in 1774. Cook and his crew were the first Europeans to visit Tanna, which is one of the Vanuatu group of islands located approximately 1,000 miles east of Australia.
