Description: One of the most brightly colored lilies, the Fire Lily (Lilium bulbiferum ssp. croceum) has stunning fiery, yellow-orange blossoms that deepen to red on the tips of the petals. Flowers face up and sport deeply colored stamens and anthers. Can grow up to 2-3 feet tall. A great addition to a rock garden and is an excellent cut-flower. It does best in part shade conditions with dry to average soil. Hardy in zones 3-9. Unique, hard to find. Easy to grow and fast growing. When mature can produce up to over a dozen flowers on each stem. Note: Ornamental use only. Many plants have poisonous parts, these included. Minor toxicity. Germination: For these perennial seeds, like many others, a cold stratification period is required. For best results, sow seeds and keep them moist at room temperature or above for 3 weeks, move them to a cold area like a fridge for an additional 3-4 weeks and finally bring them out to standard room temperature. This process is not difficult, and the seeds are not difficult to germinate, they just require these extra steps and a little extra patience.
